Drought Analysis in Southeast Anatolia with Standard Precipitation Index Method

Water is a natural resource that plays an important role in the functioning of the ecological order. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure the availability and sustainability of water resources, but the unplanned use and pollution of the resources are factors that cause climate change. Climate change directly affects the regimes of water resources. Changing precipitation regimes depending on climate change also affects the flow regimes of rivers and causes timeless floods or droughts. In this study, Standard Precipitation Index, one of the drought indices, was used. Monthly and annual meteorological drought was determined by analyzing the precipitation data obtained from the stations numbered 17210 (Siirt), 17261 (Gaziantep) and 17912 (Siverek) in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. In the 1-month shift, 52% to 71% normal, 16% to 48% severe drought occurred. Very severe drought was detected only at the station numbered 17261 as 8%. In the 12-month shift, 80% to 88% normal drought and 12% to 20% severe drought. Very severe drought has not been identified.
